Rupa (my teaching partner) and I reported to the Abdoulaye Mar Diop Middle School with Assitou at 8:00 a.m. this morning, in time to witness the raising of the Senegalese flag by a student.
Our day was filled with many meaningful exchanges, including meeting and speaking with students, teachers and Madame Sarr, the school's principal. Madame Sarr exuded teranga as she opened up her school to us and answered all of our questions about being a school administrator in St. Louis. She also informed us of the tuition costs for students to attend the school and some of the issues that are sometimes associated with students having to pay for their education. I could tell by her words and actions that she has a deep love for her students and staff.
